Installing a 30’ Round Above Ground Pool in Orlando

30’ round above-ground swimming pools are huge! There aren’t too many of this size as you get close to the city of Orlando.

The circle shape is very deceiving in terms of how much area they take up. Having a 30ft round above-ground pool takes up a very big space and requires a bigger backyard to hold it.

In the city of Orlando, there aren’t as many bigger yards to hold a pool this size. As you go outward though to adjacent towns like Altamonte Springs. Ocoee, Longwood, Apopka, Kissimmee, etc., the average yards get big enough.

THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT INSTALLING A 24’ ROUND ABOVE-GROUND POOL IN ORLANDO

1 General Alert: 30’ round pools are huge!

I want to make you aware first off that this is a big swimming pool and its installation shouldn’t be taken lightly

If DIYing the install, take your time, have plenty of water for everyone, and try to avoid installing it during the summer.

2 30’ AG pools typically have 20 uprights and top rails

Occasionally, I’ll see one with 21 of each, but most of all pools this size have 20.

And if it has twenty uprights and top rails, it’ll also have 20 top connectors, bottom connectors, and bottom track pieces.

So, for a 30’ round pool, you will need 20 patio stones to go under each upright.

NOTE: Professional installers will include the patio stones with the installation

3 A 30’ pool requires clearing and leveling a 32’ circle of yard

30ft pools have about thirty feet of swimming area. This means the wall of the pool will be a 30’ circle and then the frame of the pool will stick out about another six inches all the way around depending on your model.

Clearing and leveling a 32’ circle will then give enough room to install the pool with its frame.

4 30’ round pools are big enough for a household of 8 or more

This size pool holds about 21 thousand gallons and will accommodate up to ten swimmers nicely(That’s a lot of swimmers). This is good with families that invite friends over or have a lot of dogs.

5 A 30ft AG pool in Orlando takes one or two days to have installed

DIYers may take a week and a half and some installers without a machine can take three days, but generally, an experienced installer with the right equipment should install a 30’ round in one day but maybe two if there are issues.

6 I charge $1800 to install a 30’ round above-ground pool

This is about the average cost to have a 30-round pool installed in Orlando (In 2023-4) My price includes PVC hard piping the equipment and up to 12 inches of off-level grading.

NOTE: Bigger pools need bigger areas to be level. And the bigger the area, usually the more grade (slope) there is. This increases the chance of the pool costing more for additional grading.

Some other pool installers may not include the hard piping or that much grading, so it’s good to know what is included as you don’t want any cost surprises.

NOTE: This is a price for metal-walled(hard-sided) type above-ground pools. Soft-sided Intex, Coleman, and Bestway made pools are different. With those, I only offer a ground-preparation service.

7 Depending on your water pressure, a 30’ pool takes about 36 hours to fill on average

Almost everyone in the Orlando area fills up their pool with their own water source. Municipal water in Orlando and Orange County has decent water pressure in most areas.

Some living in areas outside of Orlando may have wells. Some wells pump water very slowly and some can pump a lot of water quickly.

Few here in Central Florida will opt to have a water truck fill their pool. This is a very expensive option but can fill your pool very quickly. NOTE: A 30’ pool will require THREE water truckloads to fill it.

8 A 30-foot round semi-inground pool will require at least a 32’ round hole

Setting an above-ground pool partially in the ground has become quite common in Orlando.

A pool needs room in the hole to be assembled, so making the hole 1.5ft wider than the pool size all the way around will give enough room to build

NOTE: This is a huge hole! Expect an enormous amount of dirt to come out of it and have a plan for placing or getting rid of the excess.

9 Installing a 30’ round above-ground pool takes at least two/three people

The bigger the pool, the harder it is to keep the wall up during installation. When installing a 30ft, I will have myself and one other well-experienced helper.

The bigger the pool, the more wind is a factor during the installation. With a crew of just two, I won’t take any chance with wind during a 30’ round install.

Most DIYers will use about 6 people to roll out and secure the wall for a 30’ round pool.

10 In Orlando during the summer, installing a 30’ round pool should start very early in the morning

The summer in Orlando is also the rainy season. It can rain every afternoon here. This is why you want to have a 30’ pool almost completely installed before around 1 pm.

Afternoon storms in Orlando don’t last long, but they can be violent with high wind gusts and lighting. You want the pool to be almost done (or done) before the potential of one of these storms comes.

When installing a 30ft round above-ground pool during the summer in Orlando, I recommend doing the groundwork and leveling the bottom track, then rolling the wall out early the next morning.

This will give you some hours without much wind to secure the wall in place.

11 Protect your liner from nutgrass

Nutgrass in Orlando and surrounding areas can be a real problem for above-ground pools.

It’s essential to remove all of the root mass with the grass (sod) AND apply a quality GRANULAR ONLY nutgrass killer to the ground before installing the liner

12 With a 30ft round pool, consider a main drain

These giant above-ground pools still only come with one skimmer and one return jet.

With this much area, it’s a good idea to install a bottom center main drain to help with circulation and keep the pool clean. Read about main drains here

Installing a 12’x24’ Oval Above Ground Pool in Orlando

12’x24’ oval above-ground swimming pools are the most common small oval size in the Orlando area. This is mainly because manufacturers make more of them AND they are a good versatile size.

Most yards in Orlando and surrounding towns are big enough to hold a 12×24 oval pool. This is considered a small-sized oval.

THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT INSTALLING A 12’X24’ OVAL ABOVE-GROUND POOL IN ORLANDO

1 Oval above-ground pools are hard to assemble

I think it’s important to get this fact known, accepted, and expected up front so everyone involved can have a better time with an oval installation.

With my now 37 years of experience with installing above-ground pools, I can tell you that anyone who says ovals are easy to install doesn’t have much experience with them.

Knowledge is power, so knowing that an above-ground oval-shaped pool will cost more to buy and have installed, be harder to assemble, and won’t come together as well as round-shaped above-ground.

My goal here is to set everyone’s expectations lower so there will be less disappointment.

2 12×24 ovals can have 2, 3, or 4 buttresses depending on the model

There are many different oval designs on the market and I have installed every one. Buttresses stick out along the outside of the pool, so they require more yard space.

The more common Wilbar and Doughboy 12×24 models will have 3 buttresses. A few have only 2, and a few will have 4. I have installed a couple with 5, but that is too rare to consider.

Knowing how many buttresses may matter if the pool is going in a very tight spot or is going up against an existing deck.

3 Typically, a 12ftx24ft oval pool will need a cleared area of 17ftx26ft

12'x24' Oval above ground pool before the wall is installed into the bottom track

The most common oval buttress designs are made by Wilbar and stick out about one foot, seven inches (19 inches) from the outside of the pool’s wall. The clearing dimensions above are based on this common size.

Some of the less expensive oval models can have the buttresses stick out as far as three feet, three inches (39 inches). With that design, you will need a cleared yard area of 20 ft x 26 ft, which is considerably wider.

4 12’x24’ oval pools are a good size for households of two or three

The area of a 12×24 is the exact area that an 18’ round pool has. Ovals sound like they are bigger pools, but they aren’t.

Some have claimed that they can swim laps in a 12×24, but I don’t know about that. Most will say the 24’ length is not long enough for laps.

Still though, a 12×24 swimming pool is a great size that is big enough for most.

5 Installation of a 12’x24’’ oval pool usually takes a full day

Barring a lot of grading or some big mishaps, an installation crew of two should have no problem getting a 12×24 done in one day. We are talking about an oval here though, so install snags can push the install to two days.

This does not include the time to fill the pool.

6 I charge $1500 to install a 12’x24’ oval above-ground pool

This is about the average cost to have a 12×24 oval pool installed in Orlando (In 2023-4) My price includes PVC hard piping the equipment and up to 12 inches of off-level grading.

7 Installing a 12’x24’ oval above-ground pool takes at least two people

Ovals are technically harder to assemble, but they have buttresses that help keep the wall up during installation, which is great.

Occasionally if someone doesn’t show up AND the weather is going to be good, I will install a 12×24’ oval by myself. And solo, I do it in two days

DIYers can install a small oval with 2 people or more. You don’t need as many people to keep the wall secured (because of the buttresses), so that is good.

8 A common 12×24 foot oval semi-inground pool will require at least an 18’x27’ hole

Setting an above-ground pool partially in the ground has become quite common in Orlando.

A pool needs room in the hole to be assembled, so making the hole 1.5ft wider than the pool size all the way around will give enough room to build. This includes making room for the buttresses.

9 Protect your liner from nutgrass

Nutgrass in Orlando and surrounding areas can be a real problem for above-ground pools.

It’s essential to remove all of the root mass with the grass (sod) AND apply a quality GRANULAR ONLY nutgrass killer to the ground before installing the liner

Installing a 27’ round above ground swimming pool in Orlando

27’ round above-ground pools are bigger than some think. Many backyards in the Orlando area are big enough to fit this size pool, but it will be a job to install.

27ft round doesn’t sound much bigger than the most common size pool (24’ round), but it’s considerably bigger. This is the size that I start to describe as a “large above-ground pool”.

As pools get larger, the amount of them closer to the actual city of Orlando gets fewer. This is because larger pools need more yard space and homes in more populated areas have less outside space.

There are plenty of 27ft round pools in the outer towns of Altamonte Springs, Longwood, Apopka, Ocoee, etc. where yards can be bigger.

THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT INSTALLING A 27’ ROUND ABOVE-GROUND POOL IN ORLANDO

1 27’ AG pools typically have 18 uprights and top rails

Occasionally, I’ll see one with 19 of each, but most of the pools this size have 18.

And if it has eighteen uprights and top rails, it’ll also have 18 top connectors, bottom connectors, and bottom track pieces.

So, for a 27ft round pool, you will need 18 patio stones to go under each upright.

NOTE: Professional installers will include the patio stones with the installation

2 A 27’ pool requires clearing and leveling a 29’ circle of yard space

27ft pools have about twenty-seven feet of swimming area. This means the wall of the pool will be a 27’ circle and then the frame of the pool will stick out about another six inches all the way around depending on your model.

Clearing and leveling a 29’ circle will then give enough room for installing the pool with its frame.

3 27’ round pools are big enough for households of five or more

This size pool holds about 17 thousand gallons and will accommodate up to eight swimmers nicely. This is good with families that invite friends over or have dogs

4 A 27ft metal-walled AG pool in Orlando takes one full day to have installed

DIYers may take a week and some installers without a machine can take two days, but generally, an experienced installer with the right equipment should install a 27’ round in one day

During the summer in Orlando, we can get into a daily afternoon thunderstorm pattern. For larger abovegrounds, it’s very important to not get caught in high wind gusts during the installation.

For this reason, I will sometimes elect to come back the next day to complete the install. Rolling out the pool’s wall in the morning is much less risky than early afternoon during the summer in Orlando.

5 I charge $1500 to install a 27’ round above-ground pool

This is about the average cost to have a 27-round pool installed in Orlando (In 2023-4) My price includes PVC hard piping the equipment and up to 12 inches of off-level grading.

NOTE: Bigger pools require bigger areas to be leveled. This means the chances of bigger pools having more grade is greater (usually the bigger the area, the more grade).

Few here in Central Florida will opt to have a water truck fill their pool. This is a very expensive option but can fill your pool very quickly. NOTE: A 27’ pool will require two larger water truckloads to fill.

7 A 27-foot round semi-inground pool will require at least a 30’ round hole

Setting an above-ground pool partially in the ground has become quite common in Orlando.

A pool needs room in the hole to be assembled, so making the hole 1.5ft wider than the pool size all the way around will give enough room to build.

8 Installing a 27’ round above-ground pool takes at least two people

The bigger the pool, the harder it is to keep the wall up during installation. When installing a 27ft, I will have myself and one other experienced helper.

With a 27’ pool, I have never attempted to install one myself. This is just too much wall to secure and then have to adjust if it doesn’t fit well in the bottom track.

Most DIYers will use at least 4 people to install a 27’ round pool. Professional tip: Only offer beers AFTER the pool is installed.

9 In Orlando during the summer, installing a 27’ round pool should start very early in the morning

The summer in Orlando is also the rainy season. It can rain every afternoon here. This is why you want to have a 27’ pool almost completely installed before around 1 pm.

Afternoon storms in Orlando don’t last long, but they can be violent with high wind gusts and lighting. You want the pool to be almost done (or done) before the potential of one of these storms comes.

If self-installing a 27’ round pool in the summer, I recommend doing the groundwork and leveling the bottom track, then waiting to roll out the wall the next morning. This will give you hours before the potential high wind and rain.

10 Protect your liner from nutgrass

Nutgrass in Orlando and surrounding areas can be a real problem for above-ground pools.

It’s essential to remove all of the root mass with the grass (sod) AND apply a quality GRANULAR ONLY nutgrass killer to the ground before installing the liner.

Installing a 15’ Round Above Ground Pool in Orlando

15’ round above-ground swimming pools are smaller-sized pools, but there are still quite a few of them in Orlando.

About 20 years ago, the 15ft round above ground was the smallest pool you could get. There were some smaller ones, but they were just tiny pools sold only for display at stores like Pinch-A-Penny.

Now, the 12’ round pool is fairly available and occasionally you can find a tiny 8’ round for retail sale.

In my opinion though, the 15’ is the smallest round pool that more than just one person can use. And it’s a great size for maintenance during our long, hot, and humid Orlando summers.

SOME THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT INSTALLING A 15’ ROUND ABOVE-GROUND POOL IN ORLANDO

1 15FT round pools have 10 uprights and top rails

Round above-ground swimming pools have frames that are made up of the same-sized pieces that go around the wall of the pool to make a circle.

Most 15ft AG pools will have ten each of top rails, top and bottom connector plates, top caps, bottom track pieces, and uprights. There are a couple of 15’ models made by Wilbar or Doughboy that have 11, but that is fairly rare.

2 A 15’ round pool needs a 17ft area to be cleared and leveled

Above-ground pools are measured by the diameter of the pool wall (where the actual water is), so when you factor in the width of its outer frame, then you need approximately 16’ of area for a 15’ round pool.

So, having a 17’ round area clear and level will give you enough room the assemble the pool.

3 15’ round pools are big enough for a household of one or two

A 15’ round AG pool holds about 5k gallons and is not very big. People generally get this smaller size when there aren’t going to be more than one or two users AND/OR the yard is too small for anything bigger.

4 A 15ft round AG pool in Orlando takes less than one day to have installed

When I am busy, I will install a 15’ round pool with one other helper. If I don’t have a lot on the schedule though, I’ll install this size by myself.

Regardless of how many installers, this size pool should be installed in one day or less.

Smaller pools are a little easier to deal with when there is wind. They have tighter wall radiuses which make them stronger against wind when still empty and not yet secured during the install.

5 My installation charge for a 15ft round pool is $1000

This is about the average cost to have a 15’ round pool installed in Orlando (In 2023-4) My price includes PVC hard piping the equipment and up to 12 inches of off-level grading.

Most getting smaller pools of this size will simply fill it with their own water source.

7 A 15-foot round, semi-inground pool will require at least an 18’ round hole

Setting an above-ground pool partially in the ground has become quite common in Orlando.

A pool needs room in the hole to be assembled, so making the hole 1.5ft wider than the pool size all the way around will give enough room to build.

NOTE: Many who go semi-inground with a 15’ pool do so because they have a tight space in the yard that can only fit that size. Take into account that the digging machine will need space AND you will need room for the dirt that comes out of the hole.

8 In Orlando during the summer, installing a 15’ round pool should start early in the morning

The summer in Orlando is also the rainy season. It can rain every afternoon here. This is why you want to have any above-ground pool almost completely installed before around 1 pm.

Afternoon storms in Orlando don’t last long, but they can be violent with high wind gusts and lighting. You want the pool to be almost done (or done) before the potential of one of these storms comes.

Installing a 24’ ‘Above Ground Pool in Orlando

The most common size above-ground swimming pool in Orlando is a 24’ round. During the now 38 years of installing pools, I have installed more 24-foot round-shaped ones than any other size.

Twenty-four-foot round above-ground pools are popular in Orlando. This is because Orlando and surrounding towns have homes with big enough yards AND there are a lot of families that live here that will opt for a bigger pool.

9 THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT INSTALLING A 24’ ROUND ABOVE-GROUND POOL IN ORLANDO

1 24’ AG pools typically have 16 uprights and top rails

Occasionally, I’ll see one with 17 of each, but most all pools this size have 16.

So, for a 24’ round pool, you will need 16 patio stones to go under each upright.

NOTE: Professional installers will include the patio stones with the installation

2 A 24’ pool requires clearing and leveling a 26’ circle of yard

24 ft pools have about twenty-four feet of swimming area. This means the wall of the pool will be a 24’ circle and then the frame of the pool will stick out about another six inches all the way around depending on your model.

Clearing and leveling a 26’ circle will then give enough room to install the pool with its frame

3 A 24’ round pool is big enough for a household of four or more

This size pool holds about 14 thousand gallons and will accommodate up to 10 swimmers snugly. This is good with families that invite friends over or have dogs.

7 A 24-foot round semi-inground pool will require at least a 27’ round hole

Setting an above-ground pool partially in the ground has become quite common in Orlando.

A pool needs room in the hole to be assembled, so making the hole 1.5ft wider than the pool size all the way around will give enough room to build

8 Installing a 24’ round above-ground pool takes at least two people

The bigger the pool, the harder it is to keep the wall up during installation. When installing a 24ft, I will have myself and one other experienced helper.

This is mainly to get the job done in one day AND get the wall up and secure if any strong wind is possible.

Most DIYers will use about 4 people to install a 24’ round pool.

9 In Orlando during the summer, installing a 24’ round pool should start very early in the morning

The summer in Orlando is also the rainy season. It can rain every afternoon here. This is why you want to have a 24’ pool almost completely installed before around 1 pm.

Nutgrass in Orlando and surrounding areas can be a real problem for above-ground pools.

It’s essential to remove all of the root mass with the grass (sod) AND apply a quality GRANULAR ONLY nutgrass killer to the ground before installing the liner.

Installing an 18’ Round Above Ground Pool in Orlando

An 18ft round above-ground swimming pool is the second most popular size in Orlando.

Orlando above-ground pool owners will often choose the 18ft round size with households of 2-3 or if the yard is smaller.

18ft round AG pools are a nice size and a little easier to maintain during the long and brutal swim season of Orlando. This is why it’s the second most popular size for Central Florida.

THINGS TO KNOW WHEN INSTALLING AN 18’ ABOVE-GROUND POOL IN ORLANDO

1 18’ above-ground pools typically have twelve uprights and top rails

The frame of a round above-ground pool is made up of same-size pieces. They will have the same number of top rails top and bottom connector plates, top cap assemblies, bottom track pieces, and uprights.

The amount of frame parts for an 18’ round is almost always 12 pieces of each. Some models will have 13, but that is fairly rare.

2 An 18ft round pool requires clearing and leveling a 20’ circle.

With the frame included and depending on the model, an 18’ above-ground pool will take up a physical space of about 19 feet around. Clearing and leveling 20 feet then will give enough room for the installation.

3 18’ round pools are a good size for households of two or three

In America, bigger is better. With swimming pools though, that’s not necessarily true.

Keeping in mind that the bigger a pool, the more maintenance it requires may help you decide that an 18-round is the perfect size for your needs.

4 Installation of an 18’ round pool should take less than a day

Barring a lot of grading or some big mishaps, an installation crew of two should have no problem getting an 18’ done in one day.

This does not include the time to fill the pool.

5 Standard installation of an 18’ round above-ground pool is $1100

This is my price and includes PVC hard piping the equipment to the pool (with 2 valves) and up to twelve inches of off-grade leveling.

Other installer prices may not include certain things, so you want to make sure and know what’s included in their price as no one likes extra cost surprises.

NOTE: This is a price for metal-walled(hard-sided) type above-ground pools. Soft-sided Intex, Coleman, and Bestway made pools are different. With those, I only offer a ground-preparation service.

6 Depending on your water pressure and source, an 18’ pool takes about 18 hours to fill on average

Almost everyone in the Orlando area fills up their pool with their own water source. Municipal water in Orlando and Orange/Seminole County has decent water pressure in most areas.

Some living in areas outside of Orlando may have wells. Some wells pump water very slowly and some can pump a lot of water quickly.

Only a few here in Central Florida will opt to have a water truck fill their pool. This is a very expensive option but can fill your pool very quickly.

7 Installing a 24’ round above-ground pool takes at least two people

The bigger the pool, the harder it is to keep the wall up during installation. When installing a 24ft, I will have myself and one other experienced helper.

This is mainly to get the job done in one day AND get the wall up and secure if any strong wind is possible.

Occasionally if someone doesn’t show up AND the weather is going to be good, I will install an 18’ round by myself.

Most DIYers will use 3 or more people to install an 18’ round pool.

8 In Orlando during the summer, installing an 18’ round pool should start very early in the morning

9 An 18-foot round semi-inground pool will require at least a 21’ round hole

Setting an above-ground pool partially in the ground has become quite common in Orlando.

A pool needs room in the hole to be assembled, so making the hole 1.5ft wider than the pool size all the way around will give enough room to build.
